Dear IS 230 Families,

🌟 Welcome to another exciting week at IS 230!

We hope this message finds you and your family well. We had a wonderful and successful first full week of school! The energy throughout our building—with excitement, a little nervousness, new friendships, and the hope for a fresh start—has been truly inspiring. 💙

As we continue building a strong school community, we would like to share some important updates and upcoming events with you.

📚 Baseline I-Ready & Amplify Assessments

Beginning the week of September 22, students will participate in our Baseline I-Ready ELA, I-Ready Math, and Amplify Science assessments.

📝 All assessments will take place during your child’s regularly scheduled class periods.

The purpose of these baseline assessments is to provide students, teachers, and families with a clear picture of student performance in relation to grade-level expectations and national norms. Each assessment may take approximately 2–4 class periods to complete.

The baseline assessment will count as an assessment grade. Classroom teachers will ensure that students complete the assessment and any necessary make-ups.

🏠 Families can help! Please encourage your child to complete assigned I-Ready and Amplify Math homework and independent practice. Consistent practice helps students strengthen their skills and continue making academic growth. 🌱📈

📊 Understanding Your Child’s I-Ready Results

Once baseline testing has been completed, families will receive two documents from their child’s ELA and Math teachers:

📄 I-Ready Growth Report
📄 I-Ready Growth Diagnostic for Families

These documents will help families understand and interpret their child’s ELA and Math I-Ready data.

🌎 A QR code on the back of the I-Ready Growth Report provides translations in Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, and Spanish.

Please take some time to review these documents with your child, sign them, and discuss their academic goals together. 💙

🚌 MetroCards & Student ID Cards

This week, new OMNY MetroCards were distributed to students during homeroom. 🎫

Next week, we will begin distributing student ID cards.

Beginning September 28, students will use the CASSA machines to swipe in each morning. Please remind your child to bring their student ID card to school each day. 🪪

🍽️ Family Income Inquiry Form

The Family Income Inquiry Form, formerly known as the Lunch Form, is an important form for every family to complete.

Although all NYC public school students receive free lunch, completing this form helps our school receive its appropriate share of federal Title I funding, which supports the High school application process, DREAM Program and services for our students. 💙

👕 Uniform Update

We know that some students are still waiting for their official IS 230 uniforms.

In the meantime, students may wear:

🎨 New York Edge After-School Program

The New York Edge After-School Program began on September 14. 🎉

Families of students who have been accepted into the program have already been contacted by Program Director Barbara Kilroy.

The program will continue enrolling additional students as staffing is completed.

🚨 Emergency Preparedness

This week, we successfully conducted one lockdown drill and one fire drill.

These drills are an important part of keeping our school community safe. They help students and staff practice what to do and where to go during an emergency.

🛡️ Safety remains our top priority at IS 230.

Thank you for reminding your children that drills are important and should always be taken seriously.

New York Edge School Afterschool Program

Dear IS230 School Community,

We are thrilled to announce an exciting new partnership with New York Edge, our Community-Based Organization, which will bring a wide variety of engaging after-school activities to our students!

This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to explore new interests, build friendships, and participate in enriching programs right here at IS230.
If you would like to enroll your child in the after-school program, please follow the registration steps outlined on the attached flyer. For your convenience, the flyer is available in English, Spanish, and Bengali.
Please note that space is limited, so we encourage families to register as soon as possible to secure a spot.

Parent Teacher Conference PTZ Wizard

Virtual Parent Teacher Conferences

Virtual Parent Teacher Conferences are scheduled on Thursday May 14th from 5pm - 8pm.
Sign up for appointments with your child's teachers is open until Thursday, May 14th at 12pm.
We will be using PTC Wizard to register for appointments. Please use the same account you already created for conference sign up.
If you didn't create an account this school year, please follow the steps below.

Step 1 - Sign into PTC Wizard

Please go to the PTC Wizard page for our school.
Sign in with the account you created during the last conferences or create an account using your email.
Do not use your child's email address.

TIP - Click in the top flag icon to change the language from English to Spanish.

Step 2 -Sign into PTC Wizard to set up appointments

We are using PTC Wizard to register for Parent Teacher Conferences and ZOOM for the meetings.
CLICK ON TEACHERS and choose your child's teachers that you want to meet with and choose a time slot for each one.
If your child has two teachers for a subject, please sign up with only one of the teachers so every family can have a chance to sign up.

Sign up for Parent Teacher Conferences by logging into PTC Wizard and choosing your child's teachers and clicking the available appointment slot you want.
Please choose only 1 appointment slot for each subject teacher. Appointments are limited to 5 minutes.

You can choose other staff members also, such as the guidance counselors, to make an appointment.

Step 3 - You will be able to view ALL appointments in PTC Wizard

Once you choose a time slot, the appointments will be listed in your agenda on PTC Wizard,
along with the Zoom links. Conferences will be conducted using ZOOM.

Please make all your appointments by Thursday, May 14th at 12pm.
After that time, you will NOT be able to make any additional appointments.

Step 4 - Log into PTC Wizard

Log into PTC Wizard on the day of conferences - May 14th - to view your schedule and access each ZOOM link for each appointment.
Please log in a minute before each meeting and you will be in a waiting room until your appointment time.
The passcode for ALL meetings is 230230.

Marking Period 3 Ends June 26th 2026

Marking Period 3 grades can be found in the NYC Schools Account.
If you haven't created an account yet, contact Mr. Salazar for a creation code. You can email him at ESalazar2@schools.nyc.gov

The end of Marking period 3 is June 26th. Report Cards will be available in the NYC Schools Account on June 26th, 2026.

New York City School Parent Survey

The 2026 NYC School Survey will be send with your child Monday, February 23rd.
Each year, all parents, teachers, and students in grades 6-12 take the NYC School Survey.

Please make sure that you complete the survey right away and send it back to school with your child tomorrow in the sealed envelope.
If you prefer to take the survey online, click here

Families completing the survey online should go to the NYC School Survey website

(NYC SchoolSurvey.org), enter the letter “f” (lowercase) followed by their student’s nine-digit OSIS number, and complete the survey (example f123456789).
Students can find the OSIS number on the report card, student ID card or their NYCSA account. www.schoolsaccount.nyc

Please remember to do one of the following:
1. Print off the final THANK YOU submission page
2. Have your child submit a digital picture our Parent coordinator at esalazar2@schools.nyc.gov
3. Write a hand written letter verifying submission and return to the homeroom teacher

Proof of completion of the survey (returned sealed envelope or as stated above) 6th Grade students may earn community service
hours in their Social Studies/Civics class for facilitating the completion of the 2026 NYC School parent survey.
Other school wide incentives will be shared on our school website.

NYC Kids Rise -

Free NYC Scholarship Accounts with money for college and career training!

Every kindergarten, first grade, and second grade student enrolled in NYC public schools,
including participating charter schools, can participate in the NYC Kids RISE Save for College
Program!* Family income and immigration status do not affect eligibility. Eligible students are
automatically enrolled unless their parents or guardians choose not to participate.

Students receive a free NYC Scholarship Account with an initial $100. There are opportunities
to get more money for your child’s account over time.** Organizations, businesses, and neighbors
can contribute money to groups of students’ NYC Scholarship Accounts through Community
Scholarships.

Money in this account can be used to pay for a variety of college and career training expenses
such as tuition, fees, and textbooks. For your child’s NYC Scholarship Account:

• You do not need to deposit money
• You do not need to provide a Social Security Number (SSN), Individual Taxpayer
Identification Number (ITIN), bank account, or credit card information
